Introduce yourself…

Hi, I'm Kelli! I'm an artist and designer creating work that encourages self-worth, embraces individuality, & prioritizes mental wellbeing.

Have you always been an illustrator, and if not, how did you get into the career you have now?

I double-majored in graphic design and fine art in college, thinking graphic design was a responsible job choice that involved creativity. After graduating I realized I loved hand-lettering and illustrating. It was a dream to make that part of my career. So I spent a lot of time practicing and developing my style while sharing what I made on my Instagram. Eventually, I started getting illustration jobs from people and brands who found me online, which was SUPER exciting! Now I do a mix of illustration, hand lettering, and graphic design projects, which is really fulfilling for me.

You are our first artist from the USA 😊 Where are you located and how does the city inspire you?

AHHH! Awesome! I am located in the greater New Orleans area. I prefer nature areas to city spaces. Going on walks surrounded by nature, waking up early to watch the sunrise, or just sitting outside and enjoying a nice view are some of my favorite ways to spend my free time. Being around sunshine and plants have a positive impact on my mood which makes working a better experience.

What’s your creative process? What tools do you use to create your images?

About half of my creative process is a lot of internal logical thinking, and processing ideas. Then the other half in just letting my brain come up with random fun ideas. I am currently trying to let go of a bit of control and lean toward the more nonsensical, going with the flow type of ideas to see what my imagination decides to create.

What are you mostly inspired by when creating work?

I really love being inspired by nature, there are just a limitless number of amazing shapes, colors, patterns, plants, and animals to use as references. Then, a lot of what I make is inspired by my own experiences with emotion and identity.

Do you WFH, or have a studio space?

I work from home in a small studio space that I've filled with lots and lots of plants.

What do you listen to when you make work?

Depends on the mood. The majority of the time I prefer silence to relax and focus. Sometimes it is happy upbeat pop music. And, recently I've found Lofi music which is quite enjoyable to work to.

What is your dream collab?

I don't have a dream collab. But I would say that it is always amazing to create something that supports a business that has a positive and beneficial impact on the world.
